Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Donald Trump, has decided not to serve as a delegate at the upcoming Republican National Convention, according to a senior Trump campaign adviser and a statement from Melania Trump’s office.
In a statement released by the former first lady’s office, it was mentioned, “While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines due to prior commitments.”
Barron Trump, who celebrated his 18th birthday in March, was originally selected by the Florida GOP to serve as an at-large delegate at the convention scheduled for July. Alongside Barron, other members of the Trump family such as Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Tiffany Trump were also chosen as delegates.
The decision by Barron Trump not to serve as a delegate was first reported by The Daily Mail.
The Republican National Committee is planning to hold its convention in Milwaukee in July. Donald Trump has indicated that he will likely announce his running mate around the time of the RNC convention in July, and has been considering several names both publicly and privately.
Earlier on Friday, Trump discussed his relationship with Barron, his youngest son, but did not address Barron’s role as a delegate.
