The National Weather Service has disclosed the official details regarding the recent tornadoes in Cypress and Pine Island.
An EF-1 tornado struck Cypress on Thursday, May 16, at 6:08 p.m., with maximum wind velocities hitting 110 mph. The tornado descended near the crossroads of Tuckerton and Greenhouse Roads, then journeyed southeastward through the Highlands neighborhood. The tornado’s trajectory measured 0.77 miles in length, and its broadest point spanned 100 yards. Numerous single-family residences sustained roof damage and shattered windows, marking a clearly defined path of destruction.
Similarly, another EF-1 tornado was verified in Pine Island, situated in Waller County, at 5:44 p.m. on the same day.
This tornado reached peak wind speeds of 100 mph, obliterating a substantial metal barn and causing trailers to overturn. Survey teams discovered metal wreckage scattered up to 1,000 yards to the southeast, with trees uprooted in various directions. The tornado’s path stretched 0.71 miles, with a maximum breadth of 100 yards.
