According to a base spokesman, someone opened fire at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland’s main gate early on Saturday and was engaged in gunfire with U.S. Air Force security personnel.
At 2:30 a.m., an unidentified suspect opened fire on Air Force Security officers guarding the Lackland Air Force Base main gate. According to a San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) statement, security staff reported the incident, and the base increased protection.
Just before five o’clock in the evening, a sedan halted close to the same entrance, and bullets were fired at Air Force members, who subsequently engaged in shooting combat with the gunman.
According to SAPD spokesman Washington Moscoso, “the security personnel stated they heard several shots fired as well as the fired rounds go past them.” “As a precaution, the security staff increased the number of armed guards following this occurrence. A sedan came to a stop on Median Base Road, east of the same entrance gate to the Lackland AFB/Chapman Training Annex, shortly before five in the morning on the same day.
“Air Force Security personnel were shot at a second time, but in response to the presence of additional security personnel, multiple Air Force personnel returned fire toward the suspect vehicle,” Moscoso said.
Around 4:30 in the morning, a car passed the entry and the guards fired fire, but no casualties were recorded, according to the Associated Press.
We don’t yet know how many shots were fired, how many people were involved in the shooting, or why.
Antosh told the AP, “We don’t know what, if anything, started it.” Nevertheless, neither it nor any other active danger posed a threat to the installation.
