Pakistani actress Mahira Khan has revealed that she was offered a role in the famous project Heeramandi 15 years ago by Indian filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
In a recent interview, Mahira shared that she met the acclaimed director while she was in Mumbai attending a friend’s wedding.
The Offer Came Unexpectedly
The actress, who debuted in Bollywood with the movie Raees, shared that her friend had gone to designer Rizwan Beyg along with Moin Beyg to finalize her wedding attire. During their conversation, they mentioned the need for a Pakistani actress for the project.
Mahira’s friend suggested her name, as she was already working as a VJ on TV at the time. This led to a meeting between Mahira and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who expressed his desire to cast her in Heeramandi.
Unfortunate Timing
Mahira revealed that shortly after this, the Mumbai Taj Hotel attack took place, which strained relations between Pakistan and India.
Additionally, Bhansali became occupied with launching Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor in their debut film, putting the Heeramandi project on hold.
A Missed Opportunity
Despite the initial offer and excitement, the unfortunate turn of events caused the collaboration to fall through.
Mahira Khan remains one of the most celebrated Pakistani actresses, with her Bollywood debut in Raees opposite Shah Rukh Khan marking a significant milestone in her career.
